Xbox One: Up or Out?

It’s no secret that Microsoft doesn’t really inspire many gamers allegiance the way a Mac vs Windows battle or an iPhone Vs Android confrontation would. Release the nerd rage. When it comes to the Xbox, gamers aren’t as die-hard devoted to their console of choice. This seems to be no more through as Xbox One has come out on top with console sales for the month of October. So what is it about the Xbox that is making waves again? With the recent announcement of several game series being dropped from their line-up, it would usually signify a drop in sales. But it seems that in this case, Microsoft has done something right.

The Fallout 4 release might have something to do with it. The post-apocalyptic game has an enormous range and a graphic-heavy play that extends into the horizon for several miles wherever you look. Consoles such as PS4 or even on the PC, the game resolves at the full 1080p for the best, most high-quality graphics as far as the eye can see. This has not normally been the case with the Xbox, normally resolving a much lower rate. With Fallout 4 however, the original intended high resolution matches that which the other consoles offer.

Many cite examples such as the new Xbox Elite controller, or the release of Halo 5: Guardians, or a renewed interest in XBox Live subscriptions. Whatever the case, Microsoft still has a large hill to climb to recover from a 66% stumble in sales this time last year and to face the globally dominating Sony PS4 console. Will Microsoft learn from their mistakes? Or will they be relegated to relying upon their fans who just aren’t as passionate as the Apple fans are. Maybe the solution is a new Apple console. The iPlay. Excuse while I go trademark that name.
